SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Unranked Sunny Hills Upsets No. 7 La Habra

Bernie Fancuberta pitched a two-hitter, striking out four and walking none as unranked Sunny Hills upset seventh-ranked La Habra, 4-0, in a Freeway League softball game Thursday at La Habra.

Patti Parkinson, who had two singles, drove in the Sunny Hills’ first run in the top of the fourth inning and Brandi Northrup drove in a run with a triple and scored in the seventh. Sunny Hills is 6-8, 2-0 in league and La Habra is 13-4, 1-1.

In other Freeway League games:

Sonora 5, Fullerton 4--With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Danielle Lindgren singled to drive in two runs and after an overthrow, she and the runner ahead of her scored the tying and winning runs for Sonora (9-8, 1-1).

Buena Park 3, Troy 1--Vanessa Rodriguez had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs and Christine Caro drove in the other run with a triple for Buena Park (7-5, 1-1). Danielle Snooks had two hits and two stolen bases for the Coyotes. Jennifer Merrow (7-5) gave up three hits and an unearned run in the seventh inning.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 1, Foothill 0--Tammy Kincaid doubled home Brandee McArthur with two outs in the top of seventh for Villa Park (15-4, 2-0). Kincaid pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts. Amy Tessman gave up only two hits for Foothill (11-8, 1-1) and struck out nine.

El Modena 13, Santa Ana Valley 0--Alexis Beckman pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts for visiting El Modena (9-3, 1-1). She allowed only one runner, walking a batter with two outs in the sixth inning. Beckman also had two hits and four RBIs and teammate Kristi Bolle had two hits and three RBIs.

Orange 5, Canyon 3--Carie Habhab had four hits including a triple and scored once, and Adara Marzolo had a three-run double in the third for visiting Orange (9-3, 1-1). Nina Lindenberg had three hits for Canyon (10-8, 1-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 13, Century 3--Jenny Prier had three hits, six stolen bases, and five runs scored and Ana Ospina had two hits and four RBIs for the visiting Mustangs (8-3, 2-0).

Laguna Hills 16, Estancia 2--First baseman Jennifer Milo had three hits with a triple for Laguna Hills (11-5, 2-0).

Whittier Christian 7, Calvary Chapel 2--Christin Tucker had two hits and three RBIs and Debbie Goddu pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks for the Heralds (2-9, 2-2).
