Countywide : Cal Lutheran Plans Scandinavian Day

More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the 20th annual Scandinavian Festival at Cal Lutheran University Saturday.

The festival starts at 10 a.m. with a ceremony featuring a parade of flags, national anthems and introduction of consuls from Nordic countries at 11:30 a.m.

Events and activities will include food, crafts and dance exhibits. Children’s entertainment includes a carnival with rides and games, magic and a puppet show.

A stage reading of “The New Baby” by Scandinavian dramatist Ludvig Holberg is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Preus-Brandt Forum. Tickets for that event will be $2 at the door.

In addition, a smog-free electric-powered car, designed and manufactured in Denmark, will be on display all day, and visitors who come prepared with phone numbers, will be able to make limited free calls to friends and relatives in Scandinavia.

Festival tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students age 10 and under. The university is located at 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. For more information, call University Relations at (805) 493-3151.
