Alhambra : Police Station Contract

The City Council on Monday awarded a contract to build a police headquarters to the lowest bidder despite a challenge by a rival company.
The unanimous vote followed a legal opinion from City Atty. Leland C. Dolley that the lowest bidder, Centex-Golden Construction, had provided sufficient information on its subcontractors to be awarded the contract for the 36,000-square-foot police facility.
Centex, of San Diego, says it will build the facility for $13.85 million.
Swinnerton & Walberg Co. of Los Angeles, the firm that issued the challenge and bid $13.959 million, would have won the contract if Centex’s bid had been rejected.
City officials say construction on the facility at 211 S. 1st St. will begin this summer and is expected to be completed in July, 1994.
