Sen. Barbara Boxer is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting Wednesday at the Ventura College Theater.
“She’ll speak a little in the beginning, then she’ll open it up for questions,” said Nicole Kaneko, a staff assistant for Boxer. “Probably a lot of it will focus on the budget. This is just so she can hear the constituents.”
Boxer, 52, a Democrat, is considered one of the most liberal members of the U. S. Senate, and has established a track record in the House as an ardent environmentalist.
She has vowed to provide federal economic relief for California, and her other priorities include helping push through the Clinton Administration’s economic package, health care reforms and a bill guaranteeing abortion rights.
She recently introduced the California Ocean Protection Act, which would provide permanent protection to the California coastline by prohibiting offshore oil drilling within 200 miles of the beach. The coastal waters are now protected against oil drilling under a moratorium that must be renewed each year.
The meeting begins at noon, and will last about 90 minutes. Admission is free. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
