WORLD IN BRIEF : ITALY : Fifth Fiat Executive Implicated in Scandal

Authorities issued an arrest warrant for the chief operating officer of Fiat, making him the fifth top executive of Italy’s largest private company to be charged in a nationwide corruption scandal, news reports said. The charges against Giorgio Garuzzo followed an investigation of alleged bribes paid by Fiat’s truck subsidiary, Iveco, the reports said. Garuzzo reportedly was on a business trip but had agreed to surrender. Fiat has denied wrongdoing in previous comments about arrested executives.
