MONROVIA : Stiff Sentence Sought for Boy, 12, Accused of Murder

Rejecting more lenient alternatives, probation officials are recommending that a 12-year-old boy accused of murdering a bicycle store owner in Monrovia be sent to the California Youth Authority until age 25 if he is convicted.

On Tuesday, Pasadena Juvenile Court Judge Sherrill D. Luke ordered the boy to undergo a comprehensive set of psychological tests and set a pretrial conference for May 20.

The boy--whose name is being withheld because of his age--allegedly killed Jung Sam Woo in his store on March 11 by shooting him in the back of his head. The boy has no criminal record and is not in a gang, according to detectives. But the report cited records from two schools indicating the boy has an extensive history of fighting with other students, stealing school property and being disruptive.
