Boyd recorded 40 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocked shots as he led the Pirates to a 72-59 win over Arroyo in the Southern Section Division I-A playoffs.
Other top prep performers:
Orlando Haygood, a Lakewood senior forward, totaled 30 points in two Southern Section Division I-AA playoff games. In the Lancers’ 62-47 victory over Bell Gardens, Haygood tallied 15 points. He scored 15 more in a 65-55 win over Redlands.
Kelly Hambrick, a senior guard for La Mirada, scored 38 points and made 7 of 10 three-point shots as the Matadores defeated Redondo, 86-78, in the first round of the Southern Section Division II-A playoffs.
