A transient leaping from the second floor of a North Hollywood apartment house fell onto a spiked fence Monday, impaling his thigh, and then became wedged between two block walls, authorities said.
Alex Flores, 19, jumped 15 feet from the second story of the Homewood Garden Apartments on Lankershim Boulevard about 1:15 a.m. and landed on several pointed metal bars sticking out of a brick wall, then toppled into an 18-inch gap, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells. A security guard called firefighters, who worked for 45 minutes to pull Flores free. He suffered a broken ankle and puncture wounds.
Los Angeles police said that Flores had been looking for an empty apartment, then jumped to get away from a security guard. Flores was in fair condition at Holy Cross Medical Center.
