SOUTHERN SECTION SOCCER ROUNDUP : Heilman Scores in Second Half to Help Marina Win in Division I
Sarah Heilman scored with 19 minutes left to break a 1-1 tie and give Marina a 2-1 victory over Simi Valley Royal in the first round of a Southern Section Division I girls’ soccer playoff game at Marina.
Heilman’s goal came off an assist from Marcy Crouch. Royal had led at the half, 1-0, on a goal by Jennifer Evans. Marina (17-4-3) tied it on a goal from Amy Rubenstein seven minutes into the second half. Jennifer Simmons had eight saves for Marina.
Royal appeared to tie the score, 2-2, with about seven minutes left, but the goal was discounted when a Royal player was called for using her hands. Royal ends the season, 13-5-3.
In Division III:
Brea-Olinda 4, Covina Charter Oak 0--Four players scored for host Brea-Olinda. Kristin Watts scored in the first half and Shannon Breazeale, Amy Alexander and Angie Smith scored in the second for Brea-Olinda (14-6-3). Charter Oak ends 13-7-3.
In boys’ Division II soccer:
Santa Ana Valley 5, Los Alamitos 2--Francisco Islas scored two goals for Santa Ana Valley (21-3-2) at Santa Ana Stadium.
