AT&T; Aims to Revamp Long-Distance Business: American Telephone & Telegraph Co. said it is revamping its long-distance business to give customers personalized services and discounts. AT&T;, feeling competitive pressures in its main business, said it will offer loyal customers incentives and customized combinations of products and services. It filed a plan with the Federal Communications Commission to, among other things, give a 25% discount to consumers who spend more than $30 a month on domestic, direct-dialed calls to a single area code, and to offer 15% cuts on all other domestic, direct-dialed calls.
