CSUN Notches Pair of Volleyball Wins

Cal State Northridge defeated UC Santa Barbara and Navy in the San Diego State volleyball tournament Saturday and advanced to today’s semifinal against Cal State Long Beach.
The Matadors (6-1) qualified for the semifinals with an easy 15-8, 15-6, 15-8 win over Navy. Peter Piexoto led Northridge with 15 kills and Cameron Green added 10.
The morning match was tougher, however, as the Matadors needed five games to edge UC Santa Barbara, 15-10, 15-7, 7-15, 7-15, 15-12.
“That was a great match,” Northridge Coach John Price said. “We’ve had a couple of good, big wins here.”
Axel Hager led Northridge with 18 kills and four aces and Ken Lynch had 17 kills against the Gauchos.
The Northridge-Long Beach winner will play the Hawaii-UC Santa Barbara winner at 7 p.m. in the championship match.
