TEXAS FLOOD: Recordings of 1978 performances by the late Stevie Ray Vaughan have been found and may be released before the end of the year. The tapes are from several dates in which Vaughan, who died in a helicopter crash in 1990, was in a band with singer Lou Ann Barton, who will be performing next Sunday at Coconut Teaszer.
Cleve Hattersley, who manages Barton, says that he hasn’t heard the tapes yet, but is told they are of good quality. If so, he said he will try to get permission from Vaughan’s older brother, Jimmie, to release them. Jimmie Vaughan’s manager, Mark Proct, says he wants to hear the tapes before making any decision on a release.
Jimmy Vaughan, meanwhile, is set to record his first solo album in March with producer Nile Rodgers. It’s expected in late summer, with a tour to follow.
