John L. Peters, 85, twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the World Neighbors charity in 1951. Peters started World Neighbors while a Methodist pastor in Oklahoma City and was president until his retirement in 1976. The organization works to overcome poverty and starvation in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific islands. Peters was most recently nominated for the Nobel Prize in 1992. In Denver on Saturday of leukemia.
