Poly and Artesia Dominate South Coast All-Star Team

LONG BEACH AREA — Eleven schools are represented on The Times’ South Coast All-Star High School Football Team, led by Moore League champion Poly High of Long Beach with five and Suburban League co-champion Artesia with four.
The honor team, chosen through a poll of coaches, includes wide receivers Cordell Horner (Lakewood), Jason McCorvey (Poly) and tight end Gabriel Anguiano (Artesia).
Offensive linemen are Simona Toomalatai (Poly), Marcus Whitney (Bellflower), Curtiss Armour (Dominguez) and Doug Loeser (Wilson).
Running backs are Thyya Ung (Paramount), Joe Nuez (Lakewood) and Robert Jenkins (Dominguez).
The quarterback is Aaron Flowers of Artesia.
Defensive linemen on the team are Fia Ili and Brandon Whiting (Poly), DeMarco Ford (Wilson), Tele Afemata (Paramount) and Dan Stover (St. Anthony).
Linebackers chosen to the honor team are Juan Esquivel (Cerritos), Kelron Sykes (Lynwood) and Lovell Alford (Millikan).
Defensive backs are Cris Love (Artesia), Kelly Malveaux (Poly) and Kevin McKenzie (Wilson).
Chad Weaver of Artesia was selected as an all-purpose player.
The team members will be honored at a breakfast at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Sheraton-Long Beach. Long Beach City College Coach Larry Reisbig, formerly of Cal State Long Beach, will be the guest speaker.
Awards for the best lineman, back and coach of the year will be announced at that time.
