ACTON — The driver of a car involved in a weekend accident that killed one person and seriously injured another in Acton will be arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
Edgar Fernandez, 23, of Pacoima was driving south on the Antelope Valley Freeway near Crown Valley Road about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when his car swerved off the road and into a 30-foot gorge, Officer Miguel Siordia said.
A front-seat passenger, Michael Escalante, 24, of Pacoima, died when he was thrown from the car. Armando Escalante, 25, riding in the back seat, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with major injuries.
Fernandez suffered moderate injuries and was in stable condition Monday at Palmdale Hospital Medical Center.
