Wacholder Named Volleyball Monthly All-American

Laguna Beach’s Rachel Wacholder, a two-time Times’ Orange County player of the year, is one of four Orange County players named to Volleyball Monthly’s high school All-American teams.
Wacholder, a senior who has committed to Colorado, was named to the first team. Cypress senior Heather Lowe, Newport Harbor sophomore Misty May and Corona del Mar junior Jennifer Stroffe were named to the second team.
Dana Netherby, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter from San Clemente High, has committed to play volleyball at Washington next season, said Candace Werve, administrator for the Mission Valley Volleyball Club.
Netherby, a first-team All-South Coast League selection, also considered Virginia, Maryland, Colorado State, Arizona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Rice. She will join Capistrano Valley Christian’s Karen Benkovsky at Washington.
Esperanza lineman Travis Kirschke has been named to the Parade All-America football team, which will be announced Sunday. Kirschke, a two-time Times lineman of the year, led the Aztecs to a 12-1-1 record and has committed to UCLA.
