OUTLOOK After finishing second in the Olympic League in 1991-92, the Lancers believe they can contend again this season. “The girls are very fired up for that challenge,” said Kempf, in his second year with the team. “The outlook is very positive. We have a young team, but we have a good, strong work ethic. Our goals are high and we want to meet those goals by working hard every day.” To get there, the Lancers will rely heavily on Hines, Stewart and Weddick. Hines averaged 8.5 points last season, Stewart about three points and Weddick eight points coming off the bench. The Lancers also have newcomer Washburn, who Kempf said will get considerable time on the floor, and four players making the jump from junior varsity. That inexperience and lack of muscle despite having good height are the team’s weaknesses. “We won’t be able to body up on some of the more husky teams,” Kempf said. “We are more of a slim team. We don’t have the bulk inside.” The Lancers reached the Southern Section Division IV-A quarterfinals last season.
