Laguna Beach returns two honorable mention all-league players in Sharon Olney and Cole Stephens, along with six other lettermen. “The team will have experience and depth this year,” said Olney, a two-year starter. “We will be fundamentally more prepared.” Stephens, a two-year starter, is the top scorer after averaging nine points last season. Kluth, O’Rourke and Olney each averaged four points. Aside from Costa Mesa, there is no dominant team in the league, so the Artists hope to finish with a winning record. Early this season, Laguna Beach has shown some promise, with Waian scoring 16 points in a 38-32 victory over Orange and Kluth scoring 16 in a 42-22 victory over Southern California Christian. However, the Artists also split two games with Foothill, which lost to Estancia this season, 76-8. In two Santa Ana Valley tournament games, the Artists defeated Foothill in the first round, 40-35, but lost a rematch, 36-34, despite 17 points from O’Rourke.
