Australian Craig Parry shot a two-under-par 68 for a three-stroke lead after the first round of the $2.7-million World Championship at Montego Bay, Jamaica. Australians Greg Norman and Peter O’Malley shared second with British Open champion Nick Faldo and Mark Roe, both of England, at 71.
The tournament offers the largest purse in the game. The winner gets $550,000.
Brad Faxon endured a tough day. On the seventh through 10th holes, all par-fours, Faxon had scores of 6, 9, 6 and 7 on the way to an 82.
