West Covina : BKK Sessions to Be Telecast
A series of public meetings on the environmental impact of proposed changes to the BKK Landfill’s solid waste facility permit will be cablecast on WCCT Channel 56.
The City Council voted 5 to 0 Tuesday to ask staff to arrange for live broadcasts with WCCT if the station’s schedule permits. Otherwise, the broadcasts would be delayed.
BKK’s permit has not been revised for the last 12 years because the landfill’s environmental problems--which almost led to its closure in the 1980s--had absorbed the city’s attention.
The first meeting, scheduled for tonight will review the permit revision process for the Planning Commission and Waste Management and Environmental Quality Commission. It begins at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 1444 W. Garvey Avenue, West Covina.
The public can comment on the draft environmental impact report on the revisions to the permit at hearings scheduled for Jan. 21 and Feb. 9 at the same time and place.
