Apple of My Eye: Geena Davis was named female star of the year and Tom Cruise was honored as male star of the year at the Hollywood Women’s Press Club’s 52nd annual Golden Apple Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday. The female discovery of the year award went to Bridget Fonda, and Brendan Fraser (“School Ties”) and Grant Show (“Melrose Place”) tied for the male discovery award. The Sour Apple award was bestowed upon Madonna, who was not present to receive it, by last year’s winner, Zsa Zsa Gabor. Jack Lemmon won the Louella O. Parsons award for the person who best represents Hollywood to the rest of the world. James Earl Jones made a surprise appearance as Santa Claus.
