Atlanta’s bid to include golf at the 1996 Olympics suffered another blow when IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch said he would take into account the objections to the proposed venue of Augusta National.
Samaranch said he received a letter from the Atlanta City Council opposing the proposal on grounds that Augusta practices discrimination in selection of its members. Augusta, home of the Masters, has only one black member and no female members.
