Bobby Carey, the former athletic director, coached an Arkansas Baptist basketball team in Oklahoma City last Saturday to help Coach Arcell Marks out of a tight spot, school President W.T. Keaton acknowledged.
On the same night, Arkansas Baptist lost, 90-76, at Prairie View A&M; in Texas and 148-78 at Oklahoma City.
Keaton said Marks tried to reschedule the game at Oklahoma City University but failed, then asked Carey to take some players to Oklahoma City because he feared possible legal problems.
Marks said Wednesday that Arkansas Baptist submitted a roster to both opponents and that his school has two sets of uniforms.
Marks said he could not be specific about which players participated in which game. He said Tuesday night that Carey had been aware of the scheduling conflicts and “may have put a team together to play for us.”
