A former Nevada Las Vegas athletic director planted stories in the media and set a goal of getting rid of basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, a former sports editor testified. Bob Sands, former sports editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal who was fired in April of 1991, testified before a legislative committee looking into charges that Tarkanian was forced to resign in a power struggle with the administration. Sands accused former athletic director Dennis Finfrock of feeding the media negative publicity about Tarkanian.
