Social Security in Aging America

On Nov. 26, The Times printed two related items. First was Samuelson’s column about graying America--the “baby boom will bust us.” He is concerned about supporting the high ratio of “older Americans” 20 years from now. The other article, in Section A, says that “fetal tissue benefits Parkinson’s disease patients.” Scientists use the “brain cells” of “aborted fetuses”--translated to “killed young ones”--to heal sick people. While complaining about the burden of paying for older Americans, we are killing off our young ones--those who could support the old ones--in order to keep the old and sick alive longer. What is the matter with our society?
