Developers the Same Worldwide
I was a supporter of the proposed Jordan Ranch project prior to its consolidation with the Ahmanson Ranch community because I felt it was a well-planned, environmentally sound project. I am a supporter of the present proposal for the same reasons.
We have an opportunity to gain thousands of acres of open space to be protected forever from development. Some of the people who opposed the Jordan Ranch project said they just wanted to see the ranch preserved with all its beauty and its oak forest. Now they have the opportunity to have just that, and they are opposing public acquisition of the Jordan Ranch, Runkle Ranch, Corral Canyon and 2,633 acres on the Ahmanson Ranch--all told, over 10,000 acres.
We also have the opportunity to have a visionary master-planned community that would be self-sustaining. The Ahmanson Ranch development would be designed so that people can live, work, go to school and play in their own community. Jobs and economic opportunities will be available. There is a built-in balance of jobs to housing, with homes ranging from affordable to expensive.
No-growth attitudes contribute to a poor economic climate. Almost daily we are bombarded with bad economic news, especially in California. Businesses and taxpayers are “gettin’ out of town.” The issue we must face is not growth or no-growth, development or no development. Some growth is inevitable if we are to remain economically healthy.
What we must do is plan well. You can’t plan any better than the Ahmanson Ranch.
