Center Chris Blanton led the Dons to a 4-0 start and the championship of the South Lake Tahoe Tournament. The Dons began the week with a non-league win over Compton as Blanton scored 17 points. The Dons then traveled to Lake Tahoe where they won three consecutive games. Blanton started slowly with two points in a 65-38 first-round victory over Antioch, Nev. He then had 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 53-37 victory over South Lake Tahoe, and 15 points and 11 rebounds in the championship game, a 49-42 victory over South Tahoe. Blanton was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Other top prep performers:
Chris Boyd, a Paramount High basketball player, scored 49 points in two games. Boyd scored 28 in the Pirates’ 73-62 victory over Woodbridge, then 21 in an 81-73 loss to Los Alamitos.
Mike Moschetti, La Mirada High quarterback, completed 15 of 18 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns as the Matadores defeated La Sierra, 28-14. The victory places La Mirada in the CIF Southern Section Division VIII football finals against San Marino.
