U.S. Staging Its Biggest Economic Census: More than 3.5 million businesses will receive questionnaires this month in the government’s most comprehensive economic census ever, the Census Bureau said. Those receiving a form asking for information from payroll size to value of goods and services produced are required by law to respond by Feb. 15. The information is kept confidential. The economic census is conducted every five years and measures activity in retail and wholesale trade, service industries, transportation, manufacturing, mining and construction. This census, for the first time, will also survey finance, insurance, real estate, communications and utilities, the bureau said.
