When I was a kid, murders never occurred in my hometown: the outskirts of Chicago, where the city shook hands with the cornfields in Naperville, Ill. The Nicarico rape and murder tragedy has blemished my hometown memories and embittered me, 15 years later and from a distance of 2,200 miles. Our legal system is a comedy of errors.
