Immigrant Jobs
It is frequently asserted by immigrants rights advocates that legal and illegal immigrants do not take jobs from Americans, that they only take jobs no American wants. Twenty years ago, drywall workers were American citizens--mostly white, with some black and some Hispanic Americans. Today these jobs are held almost exclusively by immigrants--both legal and illegal.
These non-citizens drove out the American workers by accepting wages that they themselves now recognize as exploitative. It appears they may now have re-established a union which will accept wages lower than those which prevailed 10 years ago and whose members will be largely non-citizens.
Clearly, illegal immigrants do take jobs away from American citizens as the drywall situation shows. We must close our border to illegal immigration and save jobs for Americans--Hispanic Americans, African-Americans, Asian-Americans as well as Caucasian Americans.
Our unemployment rate is now almost 10%. I refuse to believe that no American wants these jobs!
