Jim Sebreros rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns on runs of 64 and 47 yards to lead Garden Grove to a 20-0 victory over San Luis Obispo.
ODDS AND ENDS
Tailback Jeff Byrd was not just his team’s leading rusher, but was the top passer as well as Rancho Alamitos beat Culver City, 20-6. Byrd rushed for 211 yards in 24 carries.
But he was also one of one passing, good for 26 yards off a halfback option. Meanwhile Rancho Alamitos quarterback Marshall Brown completed none of three passes.
ON THE RUN
Los Amigos quarterback Ape Tuato spent much of the game running for his life in the Lobos’ 28-13 loss to Lompoc.
He was sacked six times for minus-42 yards. He was hurried several other times, but completed seven of 15 passes for 98 yards.
GREAT GROVE
The Garden Grove League improved its playoff record to 6-2, placing two teams in the semifinals. The league has had no representative in the championship game since Bolsa Grande won the Central Conference championship in 1986.
