LOS ANGELES : Two Found Not Guilty in Slaying of Cabdriver
A juvenile tried as an adult for the murder of a Nigerian cabdriver last year has been acquitted, along with his alleged adult accomplice.
A Superior Court jury found Eric Dwayne Howard, now 19, and Robert Berry, 23, not guilty of the slaying of Ume Onyeanusu, a 54-year-old driver for L.A. City Taxi Co., in July, 1991. The taxi driver was one of three killed in Los Angeles over a three-month period. Authorities believed that Onyeanusu’s cab had been commandeered after a robbery and that the driver was gunned down as he tried to escape.
