SAN DIEGO : 2 Men Rescued Off Point Loma
Two men treaded water for 45 minutes off the Point Loma coast Friday before being rescued by the Coast Guard.
Eric and Brett Lawson of El Cajon were plucked from the water about 4:30 p.m. more than 200 yards offshore after their 17-foot power boat overturned, the Coast Guard said. A 41-foot Coast Guard utility boat and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene.
The boat was unable to penetrate the breaking surf, the Coast Guard said, and so the helicopter moved in, with a rescue swimmer jumping from the aircraft to aid the Lawsons, who were clinging to the debris from their boat.
The two were taken to UCSD Medical Center, where they were treated for mild hypothermia.
