Proven Nordhoff Seeks Volleyball Title
Top-seeded Nordhoff (20-3) brings one of the Southern Section’s most experienced teams into the Division IV volleyball final Saturday morning at 11:30 against Atascadero at Cerritos College. Setter Sami Sawyer, an All-Southern Section pick last year, is a four-year varsity veteran, along with outside hitters Joanna Sandefur and Sarah Wright. Middle blocker Alison Nofrey, another All-Southern Section player, and outside hitter Allison Kerr are three-year starters.
L.A. Baptist will be attempting to repeat as Division V champion in an earlier match (9:30) against Capistrano Valley Christian.
Capistrano Valley (16-0) has been top-ranked all season, but the Eagles were in almost the same position last year when L.A. Baptist handed them their first loss in the semifinals.
The second-ranked Knights (18-0) have just one starter, Sarah Rameson, back from last year’s team. But she has carried the attack and established several team hitting records this season.
