HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 2-year-old boy was critically injured Monday afternoon when he darted into traffic and was struck by a car.
The child dashed between two parked cars and ran into Amberleaf Circle about 3 p.m., police said. A woman driving west on Amberleaf near Main and Delaware streets hit the child, inflicting head wounds and internal injuries, Sgt. Gary Meza said.
The accident is under investigation, but the driver has not been cited or arrested.
“It appears it wasn’t her fault,” Meza said. “He just darted out.”
The boy was taken by helicopter to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed in critical condition late Monday.
