Thousand Oaks 21, Royal 6--Defensive back Greg Aguilar stripped the ball from Royal wide receiver David Brown after a 45-yard pass reception, and Matt Elam recovered on the Lancer 35-yard line with 5:30 to play to preserve the Lancer victory at home.
On the Lancers’ first possession, quarterback Trevor Thompson capped an eight-play, 59-yard drive with a 12-yard scoring pass to Greg Johnson. Thousand Oaks (4-5-1, 4-3) led, 7-0, at halftime.
An inspired Lancer defense held the Highlanders (3-7, 2-5) to 16 yards in the first half.
Thompson marched the Lancers 74 yards in 13 plays on its initial second-half possession and capped the six-minute drive with a 19-yard scoring pass to Aguilar.
Lancer tailback Quincy Jacobs led all rushers with 88 yards in 15 carries.
Royal running back Mike Streeter rushed for 83 yards in 13 carries, including a 35-yard scoring run. Brown caught three passes for 100 yards.
Thompson added a one-yard scoring run, capping a 65-yard drive with 2:19 remaining.
