Dorsey, Banning Play at El Camino

In a rematch of a game that drew national attention last year, Dorsey and Wilmington Banning high schools play today in the regular-season football finale at 1 p.m. at El Camino College in Torrance.
Controversy was stirred last year when Banning forfeited the game, refusing to play at Dorsey’s home field, Jackie Robinson Stadium, because the Banning coach said the stadium was not safe in the wake of two apparently gang-related shootings.
When the teams did play in the City 4-A championship game before 12,000 at El Camino, Dorsey won, 33-30.
Today’s game was to be played at Jackie Robinson Stadium, but officials from both schools reached an agreement in September to move the game to El Camino to accommodate more fans.
Dorsey (3-1-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall) and Banning (3-2 and 6-3) are playing for a playoff berth. Carson has clinched the Southern Pacific Conference title.
