RESEDA : Youth Charged as Adult in Robbery

A Van Nuys teen-ager was charged as an adult Thursday in an armed robbery at Reseda High School in which two men took a Rolex watch from an assistant principal and fired one shot that slightly injured a student.

Arvon Williams, 17, was charged with robbery and assault with a firearm in the Aug. 24 incident, which occurred just before the end of the school day.

Williams, who is being held without bail, is to be arraigned today in Van Nuys Municipal Court.

At a hearing Wednesday in Sylmar Juvenile Court, a judge refused Williams’ plea to be tried as a juvenile.

Police say Williams and an accomplice posed as a counselor and student to get into the office of Assistant Principal Dimitri Vadetsky, then pulled a pistol and robbed him of his watch and his wallet.

Before the two fled by car, the accomplice fired one shot at a group of students, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert P. Imerman.

The shot missed, but one student was grazed by a chip of concrete sent flying by the bullet, police said.

Williams was arrested one month after the incident based on an anonymous tip, police said. The accomplice is still being sought.
