ROUNDUP : Master’s Wins Soccer Playoff
Paul Smith scored two second-half goals Wednesday to lead The Master’s to a 3-1 win over Southern California College in an NAIA District 3 soccer quarterfinal in Costa Mesa.
Smith broke a tie with a goal in the 67th minute. He added an insurance goal in the 86th minute.
Southern California’s Hector Perez and Master’s Ezequiel Bongarra scored in the first half.
The Master’s (7-11-1) advances to meet Westmont on Saturday at Westmont.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
City Section playoffs--Brahna Pastorini, Julie Feldman and Kimberly Shapiro remained undefeated with straight-set wins, leading top-ranked Taft to a 7-0 quarterfinal victory over University (9-3) at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.
Taft (14-0) will meet Grant (11-1), a 4-3 winner over Granada Hills, in the semifinals next Wednesday. Palisades, the 13-time defending champion, beat North Hollywood, 6-1, and Birmingham upset third-seeded Chatsworth, 4-3, in the other quarterfinals.
