Monrovia : Centre Theatre Closes
The Monrovia Center Theatre, established three years ago on East Lemon Avenue, has been closed.
“I feel really bad because they did wonderful productions,” City Councilwoman Phyllis McCarville, former president of the theater’s guild, said Tuesday.
Founders Norman and Mary Bowman said that ticket revenue didn’t cover rent, utilities and insurance and that the community did not support the theater. But McCarville said the guild had tried to raise money through bake sales and dinners.
The theater, which closed Oct. 27, will finish its 1992 season at St. James United Methodist Church, 21033 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena. “A Holiday Songbook,” is scheduled to open Nov. 28. For information call (818) 852-0296.
