Dennis Codon Promoted to Vice President at Unocal

Dennis P. Codon, 44, was named vice president and general counsel of Unocal Corp. He will continue as Unocal corporate secretary as well as serving as chief legal officer of the Los Angeles-based oil company.

Codon began with Unocal in retail marketing in 1974, became administrative assistant to the Chemicals Division general counsel a year later and went to Unocal’s law unit in 1979. He became deputy general counsel in 1989.

Codon replaces Sam A. Snyder, 62, a 37-year Unocal veteran, who is retiring. Snyder had served as general counsel and vice president since 1985. Snyder led Unocal’s successful legal defense against a bitterly fought 1985 hostile takeover attempt.
