* * * Blind Melon, “Blind Melon,” Capitol. Shannon Hoon is best known as Axl Rose’s Indiana buddy, but his band is nothing like Rose’s. Instead, L.A.-based Blind Melon’s debut is a bit like Jefferson Airplane or Fleetwood Mac doing Pearl Jam--which is not a bad thing, thanks to the delicate guitar interplay of Christopher Thorn and Rogers Stevens, and Hoon’s attractively hermaphroditic voice.
