COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Clinches Tie for League Title in Women’s Soccer
Laurie Wilson scored three goals as Cypress beat Orange Coast, 3-1, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer match at OCC.
Cypress (12-1, 9-0 in conference) clinched a tie for the conference title with the victory. Orange Coast is 6-6-2, 4-4-1. Wilson’s three goals gave her 17 for the season, tying the school record she set last season.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Cypress 4, Irvine Valley 3--Harold Salaza scored on a header with one minute 43 seconds left to break a 3-3 tie for host Cypress (4-10-1, 1-7-1). Kurt Rosenberg scored three times in the first half and Irvine Valley (5-2-2 in conference) led, 3-1, at the half. George Charlesworth scored twice in the second half for Cypress.
Fullerton 3, Orange Coast 1--Alberto Verduzco, Martin Wall and Mike Tsarnas scored for Fullerton (9-4-5, 5-2-2). Hornet goalie Fernando Stantizo had eight saves.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Fullerton 3, Saddleback 0--Sarah Roney had 12 kills to lead Fullerton (8-3, 6-2) to a 15-6, 15-10, 15-12 sweep.
Orange Coast 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Bryn Gillis had nine kills for Orange Coast in the 15-3, 15-3, 15-4 sweep. Orange Coast is 10-4, 7-1.
In Orange Empire Conference water polo:
Orange Coast 12, Rancho Santiago 8--Richi Ruffini scored five goals and Rob Worthing had four for host Orange Coast (15-7-1, 5-1).
San Diego Mesa 15, Saddleback 12--Tim Millington scored six goals and Kevin Smith had four, but it wasn’t enough for Saddleback (11-20, 1-5).
In South Coast Conference water polo:
Fullerton 24, Cerritos 11--Mark Allman had six goals to lead host Fullerton.
