Religious Right and Politics

Those who seem to delight in bashing the “religious right” (Oct. 18-19) apparently are trying to divert attention from the fact that they have no constructive program of their own to attract voters.
It is, of course, their privilege to adhere to no religion whatever if they so desire, but it is in rather poor taste, to say the least, to make the subject a major issue in an election contest when such important questions as higher taxes and deficit financing are facing the voters.
If they sanction name-calling as an appropriate weapon, they could hardly object if their opponents refer to them as the “atheist left.”
