TENNIS : Huntington Park Girls No Match for Bell High

In a battle of top seeds, Esterlina Lugo of Bell defeated Consuelo Zandate of Huntington Park, 8-4, to lead the Eagles in a sweep Tuesday over the Spartans in girls varsity tennis.
Bell, which shut out Huntington Park in seven sets in singles and doubles play, improved to 8-2 overall, 6-1 in league play. Huntington Park fell to 1-8, 1-6.
In the other singles wins for Bell, Lilly Nava defeated Roberta Vann, 8-1; Irene Lopez beat Connie Garcia, 8-2; and Beatriz Salinas shut out Maria Marquez, 8-0.
In doubles, top seeds Lori Jimenez and Abril Mardueno defeated Jackie Licardie and Elsa Mendoza, 8-3; Aida Lugo and Frances Valdiva defeated Mara Ferrera and Brenda Soriano, 8-2; and Claudia De Anda and Claudia Juarez completed the team victory with an 8-3 win over Mayra Perez and Erica Valdez.
