Taft High’s defense stymied Chatsworth on a wet field as the Toreadors stunned the Chancellors, 12-0, Friday night in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.
Taft tailback Jerry Brown scored the only touchdown the Toreadors would need, running five yards for a score in the second quarter. Brown rushed for 88 yards in 11 carries.
Taft (4-3, 2-2 in league play) built a 12-0 halftime lead 41 seconds before intermission when quarterback Mike Ferguson threw a 29-yard scoring pass to Dayon Shaw.
The defense made the scores stand up. David Muir, the area’s leading passer among City Section players, completed 12 of 22 passes for 173 yards but threw two interceptions for Chatsworth (5-2, 3-1). Nestor Davila, the area’s leading rusher among City players, rushed for 63 yards in 19 carries.
