COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Win Soccer Showdown With New Mexico

Cal State Fullerton remained unbeaten in the Mountain Pacific Soccer Federation, defeating New Mexico, 3-2, in a men’s soccer match Friday at Fullerton.
New Mexico suffered its first conference loss, and the Titans improved to 10-4, 4-0 in conference.
Eddie Soto, Tony Jaime, and Mark Vaught scored first-half goals for the Titans. New Mexico is 12-3-1, 4-1.
In another Mountain Pacific Soccer Federation match:
UC Irvine 3, UC Santa Barbara 1--Kevin Smith scored two goals, and David Weidner had one for host Irvine (6-8, 1-3). Lance Nakamitsu scored for Santa Barbara (2-10).
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
New Mexico State 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Jonna Steffens had 24 kills for New Mexico State (11-8, 5-5) which won, 15-11, 15-2, 15-7. Casey Baldwin had 11 kills for Fullerton (0-16, 0-10).
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s volleyball:
Chapman 3, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0--Sophomore middle blocker Jenny Gunderson had 18 kills and junior Tori Haywood had 12 kills for host Chapman (15-9, 2-4) which won, 15-10, 15-12, 15-11. Evonne Caouette had 11 kills for Dominguez Hills (5-22, 0-6).
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, Providence 0--Popi Edwards had 17 kills and two blocks for host Irvine (11-9) which won, 15-3, 15-11, 15-5.
Southern California College 3, Christian Heritage 1--Julie Jones had 10 aces for host SCC (6-16, 2-7), which won, 15-1, 1-15, 15-4, 15-4. Christian Heritage is 7-25.
