Magic Is on Target for Lakers : Pro basketball: Cooper suffers a knee injury during 133-117 victory over Sacramento.

SAN DIEGO —  The Magic Johnson-led Lakers made their way through the bandages Friday night to defeat the Sacramento Kings, 133-117, in an exhibition before 11,900 at the San Diego Sports Arena.

Johnson and two other Lakers who did not play during Wednesday’s game against the New York Knicks returned--James Worthy and A.C. Green. But two others who sat out Wednesday also were sidelined against Sacramento--James Edwards (Achilles’ tendon) and Tony Smith (groin).

And Duane Cooper, a second-round draft pick from USC, suffered a hyper-extended left knee while fighting for a loose ball during the fourth quarter. He will be re-examined this morning.

Johnson, who equaled an exhibition high of 27 minutes, had 14 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds. The Lakers are 3-0 and averaging 131.6 points with Johnson, but 0-2 and 93.5 points without him.

Worthy, who sat out the previous two games because of a sore left knee, played 13 minutes, going scoreless with only one rebound.

“(The knee) was good,” Worthy said. “Actually, I was just concerned with getting up and down the court and playing some defense. My timing is a little off now and I’m not getting the lift on my shot right now, but that will come.”

Green, who had a sore back on Wednesday, led all scorers with 22 points. Byron Scott added 21.

Spud Webb had 19 points to lead the Kings (0-2), who have lost 11 consecutive exhibitions since Oct. 22, 1990.
