ROUNDUP : Bennett Leads Simi Valley Upset With Record Performance
Senior quarterback Eric Bennett passed for 422 yards and five touchdowns, both school records, to lead Simi Valley High to a 42-32 upset of Camarillo on Friday night in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.
Bennett, who completed 24 of 36 passes, connected on his most important attempt with no time left in the first half. After a blocked field goal by Curtis Cardinez gave the Pioneers the ball at their own 20 with nine seconds left, Bennett teamed with Aaron Whitley on an 80-yard scoring pass to give Simi Valley (3-3, 1-2 in league play) a 21-14 lead--one that the Pioneers would not relinquish.
Bennett’s performance offset a five-touchdown performance by Camarillo running back Fahali Campbell, who had 227 yards in 41 carries. He scored on runs of 15, two, three and two yards and on a 49-yard pass from Richard Jaramillo.
Camarillo fell to 4-2, 2-1.
