Winners of Baldrige Quality Awards Named: American Telephone & Telegraph Co. won two Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards, the Commerce Department said, becoming the first company to do so in one year. AT&T; won in two categories: manufacturing, for its Transmission Systems business unit of Morristown, N.J., and in the services category, for AT&T; Universal Card of Jacksonville, Fla. The agency announced three other winners as well: Texas Instruments Inc.’s Defense Systems & Electronics Group in Dallas won in the manufacturing category; Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. of Atlanta, Ga., won in the service category, and Granite Rock Co. of Watsonville, Calif., which makes construction products, won in the small-business category.
